Linda Solomon

After years as a public health social worker in a major US metropolis, I had a midlife crisis of sorts and moved to rural Belarus. I live in a town I call Smallville, a couple of hours north of Minsk and about a half hour's drive from where my maternal grandfather was born.

It was my search for family and roots which first brought me here in 2000. The relationships I developed brought me back annually and ultimately led to my making the leap to living here.

I photograph and write about life here from the perspective of someone who is at once both hopelessly foreign and indubitably from this place. I research family history for myself and for clients. I speak Russian most of the time. I cook, I garden (a little this year, more next year). Life is good!
